What is API , Types of APIs and there features and Testing tools
What is API:
An API, or Application Programming Interface, is a set of rules and protocols that allow different software programs to communicate with each other. APIs specify how software components should interact, and allow for different systems to be connected in a way that allows them to share data and functionality. This enables developers to create new applications and services by building on top of existing systems, rather than having to start from scratch.

Types of APIs:

There are several types of APIs, including:

Open APIs, also known as external or public APIs, are available to developers and other users with minimal restrictions. They may require registration or an API key, but they can be accessed easily and used to connect to a wide variety of external systems.

Internal or Private APIs are those which are hidden, behind a firewall and are not intended for external use. They are used within the company to expose data and services between internal systems.

Partner APIs are similar to open APIs, but are intended for use by a specific set of developers or partners, rather than the general public. They may have stricter usage limits or require additional documentation and approval to access.

Composite APIs are a sequence of steps which are combined to make a single call. They are used to access multiple endpoints in a single call.

Webhooks is another type of API, which is not a traditional request-response model but instead allow you to subscribe to certain events.

SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) is an XML based protocol for accessing web services, it has been largely replaced by REST APIs.

REST (Representational State Transfer) is an architectural style for building web services that typically communicate over HTTP. They have become very popular for building web and mobile applications.

API testing tool

There are many tools available for testing APIs. Some popular ones include:

Postman: A popular tool for testing and documenting APIs. It provides a user-friendly interface for creating and sending requests, as well as viewing and analyzing responses.

cURL: A command-line tool for making HTTP requests. It can be used to test APIs from the command line, making it a good option for automating tests or for testing APIs from scripts.

SoapUI: A tool for testing SOAP-based web services. It provides a user-friendly interface for creating and sending requests, as well as for asserting that the responses match expected values.

Rest-Assured: An open-source Java library for testing RESTful web services. It provides a simple and intuitive way to create requests and validate responses.

Jmeter: Open-source performance testing tool. It provides option to test many HTTP sampler which can be used to test API endpoints.

API features:
• it offers a valuable service (data, function, audience).
• it helps you to plan a business model.
• Simple, flexible, quickly adopted.
• Managed and measured.
• Offers great developer support.
